About Us
The swim team was formed in 1999 by a group of neighborhood volunteers who were eager to develop a fun neighborhood summer recreational swim team program for the residents to enjoy.
The Lions have grown up along side the LionsGate community establishing itself as one of the largest neighborhood swim teams in the southern Johnson County area. The Lions began with only 32 swimmers pulling four swimmers from other neighborhoods. Today, the Lions are over 150 swimmers strong with most members residing in the LionsGate community.
The team's mission is to provide the neighborhood with a fun and safe environment for swimmers to learn competitive swimming skills, practice good sportsmanship, and meet new friends.
The Lions swim team is a popular and economical summer activity for residents with school aged children (entering 1-12). The summer swim season spans a six-week period from June to mid-July with daily practices at the LionsGate pool from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m., weekly Wednesday evening dual swim meets, and one championship swim meet. The away swim meets and championships are conveniently located within a 15-minute drive.
The excitement of the swimmers and their families at home swim meets echo throughout the neighborhood on Wednesday evenings.
Team families, friends, and neighbors bring their gear and cheer on swimmers while enjoying dinner from the team's concession area.
The team's structure, practice schedule, and coaching staff have been carefully crafted to accommodate swimmers of all ages and skill levels while ensuring the safety of swimmers at practices.
Each year brings new opportunities to grow and strengthen the team. We are excited to have you as a LionsGate Lion!
