Why do I have to volunteer?
Swimming is a volunteer-driven sport. Every swim meet—from beginner level to the Olympics—is staffed entirely by volunteers. These roles include timers, officials, safety marshals, meet directors, computer operators, hospitality coordinators, announcers, and more.
Volunteering is essential to the success of our team. Without our parent volunteers, we simply cannot run meets. Our volunteer coordinators work hard to organize everything, but we rely on you to make it all happen.
A bonus? Volunteering is a great way to meet other swim families and become part of our amazing community. Thank you in advance for your time and support!
How many volunteer shifts do I need?
Each family is expected to complete three (3) volunteer shifts. You may choose to pay a volunteer buyout fee at the time of registration to be exempt from volunteering.
- Families with only swimmers age 15+ are exempt from volunteering.
- Families with at least one swimmer age 15+ (and younger siblings) are required to complete two (2) shifts.
Do I have to volunteer at away meets, too?
The majority of volunteer responsibilities fall on the home team, but we are still required to fill a few volunteer roles at away meets. So yes, you may be asked to help at some away meets.
Will I miss my child’s race if I volunteer?
No! You will always be able to step away briefly to watch your child swim. In fact, many volunteer jobs—like timing—offer the best view of the pool!
I’m new to volunteering (or it’s been a while). How can I prepare?
Don’t worry—you won’t be alone! Swim meets are busy, but there’s always someone around to help. If you’re unsure, just ask.
We recommend reading through the Volunteer Role Descriptions ahead of time so you can choose roles that match your comfort level.
Is it really that big of a deal if I don’t show up?
Yes—it’s a very big deal. Every volunteer job is essential to running a meet. If you don’t show up, someone else has to step in last-minute, creating stress and potential delays.
No-shows will be charged a $200 fine, due within 48 hours. If not paid promptly, your swimmer(s) will not be allowed to attend practices or meets until the fine is paid.
If you absolutely cannot fulfill your shift:
- It is your responsibility to find a replacement—this can be a family member, friend, neighbor, or another swim team family OR someone from the backup volunteer list (compensate them directly)
- Notify the Volunteer Coordinators immediately at [email protected] so we are aware of the change.

You will receive an email with instructions and a link to view and select your required volunteer shifts for the season. Sign up early to get your preferred spots—positions fill quickly
