2026 Swim Team Meet Volunteer Role Descriptions

Assistant Clerk of the Course (Away Meets Only)
Assists in organizing swimmers into designated lane chairs and advancing them as heats progress. Communicates any swimmer absences to the Clerk of the Course.

Backup Starter & Sign Flipper (Home Meets Only)
Updates the event/heat sign and supports the Starter as needed. Must be prepared to step in if the Starter is unavailable.

Champs Volunteer 
Assigned a role closer to the championship meet. Volunteers should review all job descriptions in advance to prepare for their assignment.

Clerk of the Course (Home Meets Only)
Oversees swimmer flow from staging to the blocks and verifies swimmer identities. Coordinates with Assistant Clerk and Zoo Parents before the meet to ensure smooth operations.

Concessions & Meet Setup (Home Meets Only)
Sets up concessions before the meet and manages sales during the first half. Ensures a smooth transition to the second shift.

Concessions & Meet Tear Down (Home Meets Only)
Manages concessions during the second half of the meet and assists with teardown and cleanup afterward.

End of Season Party (Planning & Execution)
Helps plan and run the end-of-season party, including setup, activities, and cleanup. Involves some pre-event coordination and participation on the event day.

Floater & Clean-Up Crew (Away Meet Only)
Provides flexible support wherever needed during the meet, including assisting volunteers, delivering items, and cleaning the team area after the meet.

Heat Ribbon Worker / Safety Marshal (Home Meet Only)
Distributes heat winner ribbons (ages 10 & under, individual events only) and helps maintain a safe pool deck by enforcing walking and clear pathways.

Hospitality / Floater (Home Meet Only)
Provides water and meals to officials and coaches throughout the meet and assists with general support tasks as needed.

Runner (Home Meet Only)
Collects timer sheets and DQ slips after each event, organizes them, and delivers them to the scoring table.

Safety Marshal (Away Meet Only)
Ensures a safe pool environment by keeping walkways clear, preventing running, and monitoring swimmer behavior in team areas.

Scoring Verifier (Away Meet Only)
Checks event results against timer sheets and DQs for accuracy and attaches finalized results to event records.

Timer
Times swimmers using a stopwatch for assigned lanes. Must attend pre-meet training and stay attentive throughout the meet.

Timer Break Relief
Relieves timers for scheduled breaks by temporarily taking over timing duties. Must attend timer training.

Zoo Parent – 8 & Under
Organizes younger swimmers by event, heat, and lane, and escorts them to staging.

Zoo Parent – 9 & 10
Organizes swimmers ages 9–10 and ensures they are ready and escorted to staging on time.

Zoo Parent – 11 & Up
Organizes older swimmers and ensures timely movement to the Assistant Clerk of the Course.

Stroke and Turn Judges - This is a paid position and must have been through the provided SSA training for Stroke and Turn. If interested in this position, please reach out to LG Swim Team. This can also fulfill a volunteer requirement.
